Question: software for printer (HP 5180) when trying to put program on computer keeps getting message: CDA_default_full D. I have a Toshiba windows XP. I took off my printer (in control panel) HP6200 series, but this didn't help. I inserted disc for printer 5180 and kept getting errors. I took everything off and used the recovery disc for Toshiba, but I notice there is a lot of HP material still on.Could this be on the harddrive even though I took off all the programs. Also I also was getting another window stating: video controller hardware. Requesting to use software and put on computer (I don't have software for that). I went into system restore and found another area relating to systems where it showed a yellow question mark next to video controller. I don't have the recovery disc anymore and plan to purchase it from Toshiba. I do have problem relating this informatio because I don't understand the problem and its hard to describe. I tried putting the software on the computer for the Hewlett Packard printer 5180 for two hours to no avail. Why do I get errors all the time.

Depending on where you use the laptop the signal drops from good to low or no connection. I've moved the router as close as I can but the signal still drops from time to time. My question is: Do they make a signal booster for this model and where can I find one? I really don't want to pay a whole lot and I really don't want to buy a new router.
Question: I have a games console connected to the internet by wireless but i would like it to be connected by wire.

I have a router in a seperate room to my playstation so i need approximately a 15m cable, but do i need to get a patch or crossover cable. i am not sure of this as i have heard conflicting answers all over the internet.

also, in time i would like to be able to connect more than one console by wire so what i would like to do would be to take the ethernet cable out of my first console and plug it into a switch and then connect the consoles to the switch. my next question is, would going from the router being conencted to a console being changed to going from the router to a switch so i can connect more than one, would that then change the type of cable i would need to get? or would i only need the same type of cable regardless of wether its being plugged into a switch or a console?

many thanks.

Question:

My toshiba laptop windows XP shut off by itself. I manually turned it on and I found windows such as: Tbiosdrv driver not found Toshiba network device i/o Protocol. Please reinstall config free. 4.90.57. Also, Initalization error HKDRV driver is absent. Then I tried fixing this and I got a window: user has limited rights to system resources. I am the user. We've had heavy rains and now the computer is working. I typed config.com in run under start and I wonder why it says I need a driver. Is this related to my provider Optimum online who sometimes cuts out service when there is a storm. Why all the errors. And why does my computer request that they have to shut down and I always send a report to windows. Also, I wrote today Monday 9/29. Last night the computer shut down and a blue screen came on. Two windows came on stating closing and report error to microsoft which I did. what is going on. I also went into run and typed in config and I am on the internet, but I don't think this solves the problem. I always get a lot of windows with errors, have Norton virus protection and run it. If I use the computer steady for over an hour it shuts down by itself.

Question: I have a wireless compute network in my home with two computers. The router operates at 2.4ghz. I want to install a security surveillance camera. I was told that the receiver for the camera, if operating also at 2.4ghz will cause problems with the network router for the computers. Is that correct. If it is, what are my options for setting up a wireless security camera? There are some that operate at 5.8ghz. Would that solve the problem? I have Windows XP on the desktop computer and Windows Vista on the notebook computer.

Question: I was wondering if there is a way for me to find out what the average price for a used 2004 Toshiba laptop would be on the market today? This may seem like an odd question, but I have a small claims court case where money & a laptop were taken from me & never returned. I have the burden of proof in court to show how valuable that laptop actually is. Unfortunately though, I do not have the original box or documentation on the laptop. Just what I can remember of it from over a year ago. So here is what I know:

- Brand new on the market in 2004
- Toshiba
- CD+R/DVD drive
- High speed internet
- Windows XP

I do not need an exact price, just an estimate, an average, or a range. Thank you!

Best,

Question: Hi. I am about to purchase a new desktop pc. I'd like to use it for (amongst other things) playing pc games (latest titles).

I have come accross the following pc. Could you please give your opinion on whether you think it would be suitable as a gaming pc?

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.3Ghz Q8200 CPU
4GB DDR2 RAM
500GB SATA II-7200RPM HDD
Foxconn 1333FSB MB
Foxconn Professional Chassis -TSA156
DVD Writer +_ ( 22x) Dual Layer (8.5GB)
Onboard sound with speakers
1GB ATI 4670 VGA Card
19" Samsung Wide LCD Monitor - 943SNX
Gbe Lan
Keyboard & Optical Mouse

I don't need it to be the ultimate gaming pc, but I would like it to play current games comfortably.

Thanks

Question: Brains in my feet again. I hope that it is o.k. to ask more than one question & forgive me for the length of this inquiry. I must first say "Wow" Thank you for the most informative answer I have ever received, it sounds like you understand where I'm coming from. My wish & desire is to stay in a field of some type of creative work: audio editing, interior design, graphics, photography, video work, entertainment industry or even computers, if the position included the creative aspect of design. I truly haven't a clue what is out there and/or what will be available for a 45 yr old gal that has a degree in fine arts. Yes, I have MUCH frustration daily with most aspects in my life and because I am a perfectionist, it is/has taken me forever to decide on a computer OS as well as the software i want to use. Regarding a job; I will most likely stay far far away from an office job as my focus in one place would drive me nuts, unless of course I was creating something that was changing consistently. I do know my way around the PC and you are correct that I will/can rely back to this if I were to get into the corporate world (urgg). Now about my MAC, I know there are several great apps for the creative type, however, what do I use for word processor? What would be comparable to publisher? Most importantly, the one thing that I've been stuck on finding (pc & mac) for nearly 1.5 years is a 'Personal information Manager'. I could never ever understand MS Outlook, (duh me)and many times I just wish I could build my own planner so that it would make sense to my way of organizing? Do you think there are more options for Personal planning software for the mac? I've also taken a look at entourage Hmmm and I am not sure if it makes anymore sense to me than Outlook?? SO...... my big question after all of the words is; now that you know about my creative side, does it sway your decision more to one side than another for OS/Computer? Also let me know your advice on any planners/P.I.M. I've tried nearly all of them for the PC, Time & Chaos, Barca, Google Online and more. (Email, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks & Notes) Whew, sorry again for the long-winded note, but I feel so understood here and am so so thrilled to have gotten a response. Thank you

Question: HELP-My brains are in my feet! The answer to my question relies heavily on prefacing my situation, so "excuse" the many words & lengthy (but simple) question. Being a dance instructor for 22 yrs, my computer skills are close to nil; so any advice & knowledge shared will be appreciated! After ditching my paper planner 6 yrs ago, my attempt to transition to an electronic world miserably failed! Over a course of 5.5 yrs I've purchased a Windows Desktop, Laptop & an IMAC; I have NO clue how to use any of them. Due to a newly diagnosed medical condition, I've had no choice but to plan a career change as my dance teaching career has come to a halt. I must polish up my computer skills as I'm sure that they will be important for my future. With "all" that said and my story told; most will now understand my challenges & why my statement that "my brains are in my feet" is a true fact. Please please help me decide! Remember I own both PC & Mac & will sell what ever I don't use. I just want to use a system that will be easy for me to understand! Which would be a better choice for me & my abilities; a Mac or PC & why? TY

Question: I own a Gateway TC7809g. The first time I sent it in for repairs because of a nonresponsive keyboard, the Gateway people said they'd replace my unit for me. It doesn't help that they took 14 days to get it back to me instead of the promised 7, so I was stuck without a computer for what seemed like forever.

I got my computer back on Tuesday. It's Saturday today, and I've noticed that there's a problem with the wireless internet connection on it. I'm using Firefox and have a 10MB/S internet connection, so I don't think I should be experiencing much lag if at all. My desktop's using the same connection, and it never experiences any problems.

Sometimes I get disconnected from the internet, but most often the page just stops loading halfway and I have to refresh the page all over again and wait another minute for it to reload, so you can imagine how much time I waste just trying to load pages. The problem's the same regardless of whether I'm using Firefox or IE.

This is getting really frustrating, and I'm at a loss. Is it a physical problem with the computer or something about my network settings?

Question: Hi. I just purchased a really nice new Dell computer. I now have a total of two computers and was able to set up a personal home network. I enjoy playing video games. I want to be able to play these games against other people on my LAN, but in order to play them I need to have a disk in both computers in order to run it on both. There's no way I'm going to go out and buy two copies of the same game, so I was wondering if there would be anyway to be able to play the game on a computer without using the disk. I have already tried just making a copy of the disk, which didn't work. I also tried sharing the drive on the network and running it from that, but that didn't work either. Please help me.

Question: Hi I bought a Dell Latitude C400 but unfortunately the express slot (so i'm told it's called - the slot where you insert a card to connect to the internet) has been damaged. Is there any way I can still connect to the internet wirelessly? Can I use a dongle thing or a bluetooth USB? There is no CD slot so I cannot put a software disc in though. I have a wireless connection on our main home computer so I just would like to connect to that if possible.

Question: Problem with my laptop please help. - user32.dll cannot be found?

Well i had some error messages and wanted to try and get rid of them so i downloaded a Registry Cleaner to find all the errors on my laptop and fix them. Turns out when it scanned and deleted the "errors", it it also erased some other files i needed. Now when i try and log in it gets to a certain point and says "usher32.dll cannot be found and you cannot log in, reinstalling user32.dll may fix the problem". My problem is that i cant log in to install anything, so how do i fix this? Once I get logged in i can restore my computer back to before I did the registry clean. This was one of the features of the registry cleaner program. They have this feature in the program for situations just like this, but i cant get in the my computer to use it. Please help!

If it helps at all I have windows XP home edition. By the way iv already tried to boot it in safe mode and restore it to last working condition, these did not work same message came up. Thanx in advanced fo your help. I really appreciate it.

Question: We have a generic computer which is about a 2003. The harddrive is only 40 GB. It works fine for our simple needs but we have about 7000 family photos on it so I would like to install another internal harddrive which I have done before on another computer. We aren't going for a big size harddrive, maybe a 120 or 160 GB but I have read that I should find out what is the maxinmum size harddrive the computer can have added to it. How can I get this information? The Motherboard is a Microstar MS-6163 and the processor is Intel i440BX/ZX. I know I can also add an external harddrive which I may do if the other way isn't possible. Thanks for your help. Charles

I did some research and found that a wireless N has much better range, so I went out and bought a Linksys with internal antennas. Still 2 bars..I bring it back. I then get the D-Link DIR-655 hoping that would do the trick..Still 2 bars. Any suggestions???

Question: I recently changed from dial-up to road runner (tv, phone, and computer bundle) and for the most part am pleased. I have a desktop Windows XP computer and am the only person who uses it.
People at work are saying that I NEED to have a router for my computer to be safe. I currently have CA Internet Security Suite (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spam) software installed on my computer.
I use my computer mainly for email exchanges, online banking, and some purchases from time to time.
My question is: do I need a router to be safe when using my computer? Can I safely leave it on for periods of time, or do I need to turn it off each time I leave it for awhile?
Please advise.

Question: Hello, my name is Mark and I have a question to ask, obviously, sorry to be so stupid. Ok, my computer's cd-rom drive has stopped working (i think), becuase when i put in a cd to play like an audio cd or a game cd, it will open and close but when you put a cd into the drive you can hear it spinning but nothing happens after that. There is no autoplay that comes up, and the program or audio music files do not play even when you go in through MyComputer and double click on the file and everything and try to go in through the file and try to hit play by right clicking, it does not work. I do not know what to do... Should I try taking the cd-rom drive out and/or replacing it? Also if that is the case will you please tell me how to take it out please?

Thank you for all your time. I will be making a donation...

THanks, Mark

Question: Hello. I doubt you can answer this, but I'm almost out of options.

I have two computers. One of them is hooked directly to high speed DSL, and the other is not. I have had a home network between the two for months now, so I can share files, printer and also the DSL internet connection.

On the PC that is networked but not directly into the modem, I have had a great internet connection, but lately, it has stopped on some websites.

The computer that is sharing the connection is extremely fast and loads every single website, but in the last few days, the second computer seems to have stopped loading certain sites.

It won't load MSN.com, Microsoft.com, Doteasy.com, Download.com and many others, but google, altavista, youtube and alot of other sites load just fine.

I even formatted and reloaded WIN XP on the second PC, only to find that I can't even activate my copy of windows over the network because it won't access MSN.com or any of the microsoft related sites (as well as a handful of others).

Those same sites load just fine on the first PC. (the one I am using right now).

This PC is using ONECARE, fomr microsoft, but has been for quite some time. This has never been a problem and I have checked all network settings and enabled all sharing.

Now that my second PC has a fresh copy of XP, I need to update it and install SP2, but without being able to access MSN.com, I am totally stuck. What do I do?

Question: We were given an older computer with Windows 98 (I think; it's been a while since I've looked at it). It's really slow, full of needless junk, and takes forever to boot up. There is still some software on it from the previous owners. It also gives a ton of error messages on startup that you have to keep clicking "ok" on. How do I clean it off properly? I'd like to just do a full clean install, but I don't have any of the software for it. I do have an XP disc, so can I use that and just do a clean install? How do I do this correctly? This is just going to be used for my four year old to do some little games on. I don't think there would be an easy way to hook it up to go online, as I have cable internet and only one cable modem on my computer. This hand-me-down computer is probably too old anyway! Any help or advice on this would be great.

Here is the question, my employers even though they signed a contract and usage for 99 years have decided to part ways from this program. We have given proper notice and even paid for a month of service we did not need or use. When we purchased the new software that company installed a Sonicwall it is there policy. The owner/"maintenance" provider can no longer access his program remotely. He states he needs to come and copy his "source code"because we are not computer savy he insist he has to have this. We are a little nervous because we don't know if he can copy new files, load a virus, or just copy all of our info all together. Any thoughts??

Question: I need to be able to set 50-100 sheets of handwritten notes or typed documents onto a scanner and scan all the documents into a computer. Then, be able to call up each page, review each page and highlight identified words or sentences in yellow (or some other color that when the page is printed out the highlighted are can be read)or use computer Post It Notes and then cut/paste that page and place that page under an appropriate category on my computer.

I am researching fast scanners but for now I am using a flat bed HP scanner and scanning one single page at a time (very time consuming) and it gives me 10 choices to save:
TIF (.tif)
Windows BTmap (.bmp)
DCX file(.dox)
JPEG file (.jpg)
Flashpix file (.fpx)
Image Files
All files (*.*)
PDF file (.pdf)

I checked out all of them and none lets me be able to highlight certain words on a page or put a post it note on the page.

Is there another way I can accomplish what I am trying to do?

Thank you so much

Suddenly when I go to save or open a file from any program the folders are not listed alphabetically by default. They seem to be listed by last modified.
I can right click in the file browser window and select sort by name but it doesnt even remember this for next time.
This is very annoying as I have a lot of folders and subfolders.

Can you think what could have changed it or how to set the default back to 'name' for all windows applications.

Question: I'd like to try 98 again, because I tried to use my son's PC with XP on it, and install some of the software that I bought for 98 SE. The software I'm using with my PC is - Easy CD Creator, Office XP PRO, and Cakewalk Pyro 2004. Like I said earlier, I'm not hooked up to the internet with this PC. I just use it for my own music, which I write the words with the office pro, record the music with Pyro, and burn with the easy creator, and of course which uses the Cd-Rom burner, but it doesn't appear to work with XP. What about this GetDataBack Data Recovery Software that I looked up on line? I was thinking of maybe trying that... Would it be cheaper to just go with the new OS like you say?
Thanks,

Question: Hello and thank you;

I have two PC's with problems. They are not connected to the internet. They both had viruses, and what I did was, to use a Windows 95 floppy disk to delete and I then created a primary DOS partition. I formatted the hard drive and used the startup disk to get them back. One PC I could not boot back up, with Windows 98 SE. The other I did get it running again with Windows 98 SE, but it has issues...

First is- when it starts up-this is the message...

Can not find device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application. The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file but this device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstalled or setup program. If you still want to use this application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file. Vnetbios.vxd

If I press "ENTER" twice it will start windows, but there is only 16 colors and no audio. When I look in the System properties and under the device manager, I see 2 yellow exclamation points on - CD-ROM Controller, and Mitsumi CD-ROM Controller with double speed drive. There is also, an exclamation in "other devices" category with the PCI Ethernet controller specified.
I've tried to reinstall the drivers for these devices with no result... I can not get any audio to work, that's my biggest concern...

Thank you for listening and possibly helping,
Rich

Question: I have a Dell C610 laptop and I recently installed Windows Me due having to put in a new hard drive. Everything seemed to reinstall fine. The problem I having is that the windows display is only half the size of my screen. I have tried to all the obvious to get it to fit the screen. I have went completely through all my options in control panel and I have right clicked and went to properties with no luck. When I go to the properties screen and settings, I am unable to move the resolution scale, plus it is only showing 12color when my PC show much more than that. Am I missing a driver? Do I need to do something in the BIOS? Any Ideas?

Could it be a memory problem or overheating or power supply??? Fan works. Computer been cleaned out. It tends to happen on big jobs like running a virus scan or spybot. things that take awhile to finish?? Suggestions. Thanks!

Yet another question,
I looked up the memory cards and they have one at best buy for 89.00 for a 512 card. it is a viking. they also have one for 512 memory for 159 dollars. this one is PNY. What is the difference? I am going to buy one and dont mind spending the extra money but I would like to know which is the best. I would rather spend more money and get a good working card than a crappy one. Thanks a lot for answering my questions!

Question: I was on the internet and got an error that said program has done something ilegal and will shut down if it persits. so i hit close then got some weird error and my screen turned black except the error. the only option it gave me was to close, so i clicked close and it went to a blue screen that comes up were it says press any key to continue, so i did and it went to that same error with a black screen and would just flip back and forth between the two screens. So i turned the computer off and it rebooted like normal but when my desk top comes up all i have is my background picture, no icons or start button or anything, and i cannot put a disk in and run a program either. what can i do to fix this?

Question: I've been fighting spyware and adware on my computer and having fun getting it off my computer.
